$ your own scripts, on your home screen

Hyprtile and Phosphor can run your own scripts from Termux. Type t and a command in the terminal, or add a script window that shows what a script prints, colours and all, on a timer.

What it is

Termux is a free Linux terminal for Android. Hyprtile and Phosphor do not bring Linux with them. They ask your Termux to run a command and show what comes back.

In the terminal

In kitty (Hyprtile) or the terminal panel (Phosphor), type t and any command, like t ls ~. A word hysh does not know goes to Termux too, once it is ready.

A script window

What a script prints, refreshed on a timer: by hand, or every minute up to once a day. It runs only while the window is on screen, so a timer never wakes the phone.

Set it up, one step at a time

Open the menu, then customize, for ricers, termux. The same four steps are there, with a tick on each one you have done.

  1. Get Termux

    From F-Droid or GitHub, not Google Play. Pick the apk for your phone, most phones today want arm64-v8a. Open Termux once after installing, it sets itself up.

    The Google Play Termux cannot take commands from other apps. Uninstalling Termux deletes its files. Copy anything you want to keep to your phone's storage first, then get the F-Droid one.

  2. Turn on commands

    The app copies one line for you. Open Termux, wait for the prompt, paste it and press enter.

    mkdir -p ~/.termux && echo 'allow-external-apps = true' >> ~/.termux/termux.properties && termux-reload-settings
  3. Allow Hyprtile or Phosphor

    Android's question sounds big: it means the launcher may run commands in your Termux, and it runs only what you give it.

  4. Test

    Runs echo and uname in Termux and shows the answer, like ok from u0_a215 · Linux aarch64. Then the row says ready.

Use it

Type a command

In the terminal, t and a command runs it in Termux, and termux opens the setup page.

Add a script window

In Hyprtile add a window called script, in Phosphor add the script panel from the system group. Hold it for its menu:

rowwhat it does
scriptPick a script from ~/.shortcuts, or type a command, like df -h.
nameA short name shown as its title, like disk or vps.
run everyBy hand, or 1, 2, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, 1, 2, 6 or 12 hours, or once a day.
run nowRuns it at once. A tap on the window does the same.
what it showsThe command line, the time of the last run, colours, and long lines wrapped or cut.
text sizeSmall to huge in Hyprtile; in Phosphor it is the text size of the whole home.
start atThe top, or the end with the newest lines first, like tail.
time out10 seconds to 5 minutes; a run that takes longer stops.
termux setupThe four steps above.

Scripts in ~/.shortcuts are the ones Termux:Widget shows. Make one there and it shows up in the list:

termux · make a script
$ mkdir -p ~/.shortcuts
$ printf '#!/bin/bash\nuptime\ndf -h /data\n' > ~/.shortcuts/status.sh
$ chmod +x ~/.shortcuts/status.sh

Long answers scroll: drag the window, or flick and it glides on. The terminal scrolls back the same way.

Terminal settings

Hold the terminal (kitty in Hyprtile, hysh in Phosphor) for text size, a block, bar or underline cursor, how many lines it keeps to scroll back (100 to 2000), and whether it opens with fastfetch or a clean prompt. In Hyprtile these are also term_size, term_cursor, term_blink, term_lines and term_open under windows in hyprtile.conf.

Colours your script prints show in the window, in your theme's colours. Background colours are left out, so a colour swatch should use coloured blocks.

When it does not work

The test in step 4 says what went wrong, and what to do:

the app saysdo this
termux from f-droid or github is not installedDo step 1.
termux has commands from other apps turned offDo step 2, then test again.
not allowed to send commands yetDo step 3.
termux has not finished setting itself upOpen it once and wait for the prompt.
no answer from termuxOpen Termux once, and set its battery use to unrestricted.

Is it safe

Only apps you allow can send commands to Termux, and only after you turn commands on in step 2. The launcher runs only what you type in the terminal or set in a script window, and nothing leaves your phone. To stop it, turn the permission off in Android settings, apps, Hyprtile or Phosphor.

Who has it

Insiders have it now. From 1 February 2027 it is part of Pro. Insider is the optional monthly subscription in the app: new features first, your requests read first, cancel any time.
